Day 4:  Udaipur / Ranakpur / Jodhpur
Today you cross the rolling Aravalli Hills to Ranakpur.  The Jain temples here are among India’s sculptural masterpieces.  Stop for a closer view of an exquisite sanctuary’s richly carved halls, domes, and spires.  And, the famous forest of 1444 pillars, each individually sculpted in vivid detail.  Enjoy lunch before continuing your drive to Jodhpur, a medieval fortress city rising like a mirage over the golden sands of the great Thar Desert.  Umaid Bhawan Palace – Palace Room (B,L)

Day 5:  Jodhpur
An incredible day takes you from exploring the lives of Maharajahs past and present, to the simple village life found in the countryside.  Begin at Mehrangarh Fort, one of the grandest in Rajasthan, a showplace of medieval art and weaponry, and sumptuous living quarters.  Continue to the Arabian Nights setting of Rohetgarh Palace.  Here you enjoy a brief glimpse of Rajput country life during a gourmet luncheon hosted by members of the royal family of Rohit, who will then take you on a jeep safari through remote Rajasthan countryside to villages steeped in the past.  You will be welcomed into the cool earthen homes and villages of many proud people, who graciously invite you to observe and experience their traditional way of life.  Umaid Bhawan Palace – Palace Room (B,L)

Day 6:  Jodhpur / Jaipur
Today’s long drive takes you to one of India’s most colorful and dynamic cities, Jaipur, which some have compared to a vast open-air museum of bazaars, gardens, and fanciful pink architecture.  As evening approaches, set out with your guide on a walk through the city, where every lane and byway pulsates with an endless procession of camels and elephants, brilliantly attired people, and free-roaming cows.  The Oberoi Rajvilas – Premier Room or Rambagh Palace - Palace Room (B)

Day 8:  Jaipur / Fatehpur Sikri / Agra
Your week in Rajasthan concludes as you depart to Fatehpur Sikri, the 16th-century “dream city” of Akbar the Great.  Abandoned after just 18 years, its glorious stone palaces remain remarkably intact.  Cap the day with a journey to Agra and a sunset visit to the Taj Mahal, a magical experience.  It changes colors and moods as the marble walls reflect the pinks and mauves of the receding sun.  The Oberoi Amarvilas – Premier Room (B)

Day 9:  Agra / Jhansi / Khajuraho
This morning you will be transferred to the train station for a short ride on India’s premier train service to Jhansi.  Upon arrival you will be met and driven through fascinating tribal country to Khajuraho where you will check into your hotel.  You then proceed on a tour of eastern group of these renowned temples.  If pictures speak a thousand words, then the temples of Khajuraho form a magnum opus... an expression of Indian sculptors of yore.  These temples were built by the Chandela kings following the tradition of Tantric art.  Although famed for their erotic sculptures, the philosophy behind the temples is much more vast and encompassing.  They are, in fact, a celebration of all aspects of life!  This evening visit the temple complex to enjoy a brilliant sound and light show, where the history of the temples is explored.  This fascinating spectacle evokes the life and times of the great Chandela kings and traces the story of the unique temples from the 10th century to the present day.  Amitabh Bachhan, the Indian super star, narrates the story of Khajuraho in his mesmerizing voice.  Lalit Temple View – Temple View Room (B)

Day 10:  Khajuraho / Varanasi
This morning, meet your guide and proceed on a tour of the western group of temples, most noted for depicting erotic sculptures of love-making among the Gods and Goddesses and celestial Nymphs.  The sexual fantasies displayed in the sculptures speak highly of the artistic creativity and imagination of the sculptors.  This afternoon fly to Varanasi, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.  As daylight fades, take a short trip to the Buddhist city of Sarnath, where you are invited to join an evening service with traditional temple music, at the site where Buddha is said to have preached his first sermons.  Nadesar Palace – Palace Room (B)

Day 11:  Varanasi / Delhi
Rise at dawn for a boat trip on the River Ganges.  Each morning, people gather along the riverside on stairways, or ghats, that lead down to the water for Hindu rituals such as cremation, yoga, head shaving and everyday activities like bathing and laundry.  Then go ashore to explore the winding lanes filled with colorful shops, temples, and pilgrims from all parts of India.  This afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport to connect your flight to Delhi.  The Oberoi – Premier Room or Taj Mahal - Luxury Room (B)

Day 12:  Delhi
Today’s sightseeing explores the many facets of Delhi.  See the ancient Qutub Minar and Humayun’s Tomb, the earliest of the great Mughal garden tombs.  View the British-built Embassy District, parliament houses, presidential palace, and Connaught Place.  Visit India’s largest mosque, Jama Masjid, and Raj Ghat, a poignant memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.  View the exotic street life of Old Delhi on a charming rickshaw taxi ride.  At day’s end, celebrate your adventures at a dinner party in the home of Big Five’s India manager.  The Oberoi – Premier Room or Taj Mahal - Luxury Room (B,D)
