53 3-Story lavish Riads • Sun beds and private pools Owned by the King of Morocco • 3-star Michelin chef 2700-square-foot Spa
Slatted to open late in 2010, this lavish resort is owned by King Mohammed VI of Morocco. Every square foot of this exquisite resort was handmade by 1,200 artisans using the best stones, marbles, tiles, silks, satins, beads, feathers and cedar. His Majesty, Mohammed IV, has spared no expense to create a new icon of Moroccan elegance. Built directly into the ancient wall of Marrakech, the resort recreates a historical medina complete with Andalusian courtyards, winding alleyways, and spectacular water displays. Each of the stately riads, which range in size from 1,400 to 21,520-sqare-feet, is uniquely designed and furnished with silks and brocades, ornate tiles, handcrafted wood and antique furniture. Riad lobbies welcome guests into open-air courtyards surrounded by a bar, living area, and in some cases, a dining room; first floors house bedrooms that overlook the private courtyard below; and roof terraces with sun beds and private pools provide stunning views of Marrakech or the Atlas mountains. The 26,900 sq. ft. spa is located in its own glazed pavilion surrounded by a moat and features a fitness center, spa treatment rooms, an indoor pool and a traditional Turkish bath.
