Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg / Windhoek, Namibia
Arriving in Johannesburg, and connect with your flight to Windhoek, the Namibian capital. On arrival, a Big Five representative escorts you to your historic hotel, a renovated mansion not far from city center. The hotel’s gourmet restaurant serves cuisine ranging from international to French à la carte. Heinitzberg Castle
Day 2: Windhoek / Sossusvlei Dunes
Fly into the Namib Desert to the splendid isolation of your camp, a cool refuge amid the towering dunes of Sossusvlei. Activities center on excursions in 4 x 4 vehicles. As you travel through these phenomenal peaks of shifting sand, see them take on hues from golden orange to deep red to maroon. Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp (B,L,D)
Day 3: Sossusvlei Dunes
The staggering dunes and surprising array of life they support are your focus for the day. Through early morning and afternoon drives and nature walks, you discover the area’s specially adapted fauna and flora. You may also opt for a hot-air balloon safari over the Namib desert (pre-paid supplement). Sossusvlei Camp (B,L,D)
Day 4: Sossusvlei Dunes / Swakopmund / Damaraland
View extraordinary scenery on an early flight over the desert and Skeleton Coast. Arrive in Swakopmund, and travel to Walvis Bay for a boat trip to discover abundant wildlife. Continue flying to the desolate splendor of your camp in the Huab River Valley. Outings are in 4 x 4 vehicles, on foot or on mountain bikes. Damaraland Camp (B,L,D)
Day 5: Damaraland
Discover the strange, rugged environment of Damaraland, and encounter the semi-nomadic Himba people, who cling to their traditional lifestyle. Although wildlife is not concentrated here, you can see rare species such as the desert elephant and black rhinoceros. Even cheetah occasionally move in and out of this harsh countryside. Day 6: Damaraland / Etosha National Park
Namibia’s classic wildlife is most impressive in Etosha. You fly north to your camp on the park’s southern edge in its own private reserve with resident white and black rhino. Ongava Camp (B,L,D)
Day 7: Etosha National Park
Southern Etosha’s big game is the highlight today, where lion, elephant, cheetah, springbok and hartebeest congregate at water holes. Bush walks led by expert, private guides get you close to the animals. Experience the nightlife of the African bush on evening game drives. Ongava Camp (B,L,D)
Day 8: Etosha National Park / Windhoek / Johannesburg / Depart
Fly back to civilization on a light air charter to Windhoek. Then, board a scheduled flight to Johannesburg and connect with your overnight flight home.
