Japan is packed with great culture, food and places to visit. With all of the options, it can be hard to decide where to start. Maximizing your time is crucial on any trip, so knowing the best things to see and do is crucial.

Tokyo

Tokyo is considered Japan’s top hot spot and is unlike any other large city in the world. If you are considering making a trip to Tokyo, prepare yourself as it can sometimes be overwhelmingly different. One thing you will immediately notice is how there is a curious mix of old monuments and shrines with modern buildings and shops. Some sites that you will definitely want to visit are the Tokyo Tower, Imperial Palace, Nikko and Kamakura. While at these sites, be sure to people watch as well! You never know what you might see..

Kyoto

Kyoto is the original capital city of Japan and is where emperors of the past once ruled. This ancient city is home to over 15 historical sites and is Japan’s second most popular tourist destination. There are beautiful temples in Kyoto, such as the Golden Pavilion. Here you can tour the temple or relax and meditate a bit. From ancient temples to vibrant nightlife, Kyoto has it all.

Mount Fuji

You can’t visit Japan without making a stop at Mount Fuji. This is a great place to go if you would like to get away from the busyness of the cities and take in the open air. Mount Fuj is actually a volcano and is thought to be home to a living spirit. If you are interested in climbing, you will love the challenge that scaling Mount Fuji provides. If you are not into climbing, you can choose to trek through Hakone National Park where you will find natural hot springs.

Japan is a mix of food, culture, tradition and excitement. There is literally something for everyone  and it is definitely a destination that should be on your to-do list!
